There was, leadership and greatness, thrust upon individuals, who were sometimes willing, sometimes more than willing and on the rare occasion the less than willing too.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This was pretty much and continues to be, reflected in the quality and direction of discourse which was benchmarked to congress-ism and the management of political parties and systems too.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The BJP today has failed to break free from this mimicry and think outside the box. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is a significant failing and a cause for deep disappointment to young and ardent supporters of the BJP. It is also a great success for the Congress and the rest of the non-BJP milieu which has succeeded in keeping public discourse benchmarked to this stupid feudal paradigm created by the congress.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The leadership of the BJP has failed to think outside the box and apply itself to creating a healthier model of political thought in the country.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The debates and rebuttals that form the decibels of discussion lack substance and connect with the country and its issues and continue to ring hollow.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This creates a disaffection amongst the people with the politician who they rightly see as coming from one mould. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is further compounded by the hunger for power that seems to dominate all thoughts and actions of each political organization in this country. Nation building just seems like mandatory lip service when you respond in kind to the congress and its paradigm of politics.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is always the option of pouring more scorn on the other, but does it reflect you in any better light at all?&lt;br /&gt;I do not see the BJP being able to differentiate itself from this generic version of politics practised in this country.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Take for example BJP’s abject failure as an opposition and reactive politics. This keeps the BJP forever in a reactive phase and the congress with its better structured media management has a ball. Gross incompetence this. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What prevented BJP from creating a shadow cabinet type of organization? Such an organization could research and monitor the government and its actions and create better informed and diligent debate on each aspect of governance.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It would communicate a substantial approach to the people of the nation and not mere gladiatorial politics that makes reactive discourse the only available option. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It also makes credible, the claim of leadership development and a viable team to run affairs of the nation when you do get to power.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A credible team that possesses insight and understanding, experience and ability to comment or manage affairs. It would also force the opponents to treat the BJP with respect and not dismiss its discourse as mere wordplay or rhetoric.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Such teams when extended to state , city or village levels would provide acuity and credibility to the information flow and build a bridge of dialogue with the people of the country.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The good governance that all parties scream about could actually be reality. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Getting to power with a clear majority would then be a distinct possibility and not just a rhetorical proposition.&lt;br /&gt;This though would take reticence and patience that does not seem to be available to the second rung of leadership that the BJP has today. If I can call it leadership, that is. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The BJP (and not only the BJP) seem to be in defiance of evolution and its current disarray is entirely well earned.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Managing large organizations needs skills that do not come naturally to most people who are busy with the trees and lose sight of the woods i.e. the congress style of things.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This malaise seems to afflict the BJP too. Where is the difference in the party with a difference? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the interests of brevity and focus I end this note here. (http://dhaturaawards.blogspot.com)&lt;br /&gt;The 1984 riots were a serious act of genocide leaving 3000 defenceless Indians dead, more families rendered asunder and perhaps many young children orphaned or rudderless.&lt;br /&gt;The real Culprits of the Carnage still roam scot free, barring those who managed to reach their grave before justice. They were lucky television hadn't struck then. There is encouraging progress in riots of recent origin where people closer to the epicenter have found justice knocking on their door.&lt;br /&gt;And yet our leaders and opinion makers busy themselves trying to put partisan spin on something so horrific in the hopes that two wrongs could make theirs right!&lt;br /&gt;This brings us to an important question - Can a leader really escape responsibility for the deeds he may have instigated wittingly or unwittingly and more importantly, should he?&lt;br /&gt;Can we allow this? These are handy tools for politicians and parties to subvert the will of the people. It is ironical that even while democracy is about what people can agree upon - not what they can disagree upon. The politicians are successful in keeping us largely distracted by playing up these differences instead of building on what unites us as a nation. Let us root for a directly elected chief executive of government (you can call the position anything you like - prime minister isn't too bad). He can be checked and balanced by a parliament elected as it is currently. No prizes for guessing which constituency or special interest group such an elected CEO would have to serve! What are the chances of Dawood or any other criminal backed politico rigging the whole national vote? Must read ! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Vivek Pradhan was not a happy man. Even the plush comfort of the air-conditioned compartment of the Shatabdi express could not cool his frayed nerves. He was the Project Manager and still not entitled to air travel. It was not the prestige he sought; he had tried to reason with the admin person, it was the savings in time. As PM, he had so many things to do!! He opened his case and took out the laptop, determined to put the time to some good use.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Are you from the software industry sir," the man beside him was staring appreciatively at the laptop. Vivek glanced briefly and mumbled in affirmation, handling the laptop now with exaggerated care and importance as if it were an expensive car.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"You people have brought so much advancement to the country, Sir. Today everything is getting computerized. "&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Thanks," smiled Vivek, turning around to give the man a look. He always found it difficult to resist appreciation. The man was young and well  built like a sportsman. He looked simple and strangely out of place in that little lap of luxury like a small town boy in a prep school. He probably was a railway sportsman making the most of his free traveling pass.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"You people always amaze me," the man continued, "You sit in an office and write something on a computer and it does so many big things outside."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Vivek smiled deprecatingly and replied "It is not as simple as that my friend. It is not just a question of writing a few lines. There is a lot of process that goes behind it."  For a moment, he was tempted to explain the entire Software Development Lifecycle but restrained himself to a single statement.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"It is complex, very complex." &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"It has to be. No wonder you people are so highly paid!," came the reply.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This was not turning out as Vivek had thought. A hint of belligerence crept into his so far affable, persuasive tone.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Everyone just sees the money. No one sees the amount of hard work we have to put in. Indians have such a narrow concept of hard work. Just because we sit in an air-conditioned office, does not mean our brows do not sweat. You exercise the muscle; we exercise the mind and believe me that is no less taxing."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He could see, he had the man where he wanted, and it was time to drive home the point. "Let me give you an example. Take this train. The entire railway reservation system is computerized. You can book a train ticket between any two stations from any of the hundreds of computerized booking centres across the country. Thousands of transactions accessing a single database, at a time concurrently; data integrity, locking, data security. Do you understand the complexity in designing and coding such a system?"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The man was awestruck; quite like a child at a planetarium. This was something big and beyond his imagination. "You design and code such things."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"I used to," Vivek paused for effect, "but now I am the Project Manager."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Oh!" sighed the man, as if the storm had passed over, "so your life is easy now."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This was like the last straw for Vivek. He retorted, "Oh come on, does life ever get easy as you go up the ladder. Responsibility only brings more work. Design and coding! That is the easier part. Now I do not do it, but I am responsible for it and believe me, that is far more stressful! &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;My job is to get the work done in time and with the highest quality. To tell you about the pressures, there is the customer at one end, always changing his requirements, the user at the other, wanting something else, and your boss, always expecting you to have finished it yesterday."  Vivek paused in his diatribe, his belligerence fading with self-realization. What he had said, was not merely the outburst of a wronged man, it was the truth. And one need not get angry while defending the truth.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"My friend, you don't know what it is to be in the Line of Fire" Vivek concluded triumphantly.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The man sat back in his chair, his eyes closed as if in realization. When he spoke after sometime, it was with a calm certainty that surprised Vivek. "I know sir,..... I know what it is to be in the Line of Fire......." He was staring blankly, as if no passenger, no train existed, just a vast expanse of time..............&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"There were 30 of us when we were ordered to capture Point 4875 in the cover of the night. The enemy was firing from the top. There was no knowing where the next bullet was going to come from and for whom. In the morning when we finally hoisted the Tricolour at the top only 4 of us were alive."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"You are a...?"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"I am Subedar Sushant from the 13 J&amp;K Rifles on duty at Peak 4875 in Kargil. They tell me I have completed my term and can opt for a soft assignment. But, tell me sir, can one give up duty just because it makes life easier. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;.....On the dawn of that capture, one of my colleagues lay injured in the snow, open to enemy fire while we were hiding behind a bunker. It was my job to go and fetch that soldier to safety. But my Captain Batra Sahib refused me permission and went ahead himself. "He said that the first pledge he had taken as a Gentleman Cadet was to put the safety and welfare of the nation foremost followed by the safety and welfare of the men he commanded... ....his own personal safety came last, always and every time. "He was killed as he shielded and brought that injured soldier into the bunker. Every morning thereafter, as we stood guard, I could see him taking all those bullets, which were actually meant for me . &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;I know sir....I know, what it is to be in the Line of Fire."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Vivek looked at him in disbelief not sure of how to respond. Abruptly, he switched off the laptop. It seemed trivial, even insulting to edit a Word document in the presence of a man for whom valor and duty was a daily part of life; valor and sense of duty which he had so far attributed only to epical heroes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The train slowed down as it pulled into the station, and Subedar Sushant picked up his bags to alight.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"It was nice meeting you sir." Vivek fumbled with the handshake.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This hand... had climbed mountains, pressed the trigger, and hoisted the Tricolour !.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Suddenly, as if by impulse, he stood up at attention and his right hand went up in an impromptu salute.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was the least he felt he could do for the country.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;PS: The incident he narrated during the capture of Peak 4875 is a true-life incident during the Kargil war. Capt. Batra sacrificed his life while trying to save one of the men he commanded, as victory was within sight. All we have been witnessing is stalling, fudging and denials using semantics, and Oscar Worthy performances of injured innocence from a pathetic cast of cardboard crew.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pakistan shall do as is its wont.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The pertinent question before India and Indians is:  What do we, as a nation do now ?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let us admit that we have carried our vain Nehruvian follies too far, and also acknowledge the fact that Pakistan is a hostile neighbour that is at war with us even if by unconventional means. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The state policies in Pakistan are unlikely to change towards any known benchmarks of civilization any time soon. It is a long way off from economic or socio-political stability and needs an external threat to string together its notion of nationhood and if that can weave in Islam too, so much the better since they then have a connect with Jinnah and his rationale for their nationhood. Kashmir or any issue handy would do very well, thank you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What would a country do when at war with another?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Cease all exchanges, diplomatic, trade, cultural and raise its defences.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The defences that we need to build up in this kind of conflict would need to be built around predicting, preventing and also remedying terror. This means a completely different level of sensing, equipping, training of forces and military and political leadership.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let us also recognize that the Taliban and Al-Qaeda stand just 450 Kilometres from Srinagar (NOT the border or LOC ) and that is a very small distance from an unconventional and toxic enemy that has the ability to recruit, arm, support and propel fighting units into our territory in any guise. &lt;br /&gt;The talk of any let up in Kashmir is plain stupidity on our part.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This malignant force is fully capable of displacing civil administration in Pakistan with active collusion of state forces in any part of Pakistan and is not bound by any conventional limitations. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let us also not discount their willing accessories in Pakistan and India in the form of the underworld and the other anti national forces operating on the principle of enemy's enemy being a friend.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let us also recognize another key force multiplier readily available to this enemy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Indian underworld with is epicentre in Mumbai is an ardent facilitator of no ordinary means, that makes things possible for them. It enjoys a very high level of political patronage in India, which is obvious from the fact that we have been utterly unsuccessful in extraditing or taking out Dawood and his henchmen who remain safely ensconced in the same neighbourhood as Mr.Zardari and his gang in Karachi.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Not only that, they still manage to control a crew in Mumbai, what should essentially be hostile territory for them. It is plain common sense that these desperadoes are able to do so only because they are secure in the knowledge that they have an umbrella over them. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Isn't it ludicrous that Indian intelligence and security forces are unable to drive mortal fear into these operatives when they can easily do so for other citizens of this country? The identities of these key operatives are well known to the law enforcers who in other cases can be a law unto themselves.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Contrast this with the retrieval of Nazi war criminals by Israel from all corners in the world when it counted and subjecting them to trials in Israel.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The focus of common citizens of this country needs to be decriminalizing the politics of our country and getting rid of these hyenas who protect these desperadoes, through the ballot. This is going to be the acid test for us as ordinary Indians this coming poll.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The media needs to play a very important role in asking the right questions without fear or favour to help the public identify these treacherous individuals in the guise of politicians and public servants, who for their vested interest have been nurturing these criminals.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is the clear and present danger.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No longer can we abdicate our responsibility and expect the rest of the system to deliver what they have been encouraging either by omission or commission for all these years.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As for dealing with Pakistan, let us not allow it to occupy undeserved mind space and &lt;br /&gt;Just deal with it as we would with an enemy until it shows any serious intent of following a policy of mutual respect and accepts internationally accepted norms for responsible nations as the benchmark for its conduct.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Supporting civil movements in uncivil countries in no ones obligation and cannot be demanded as a divine right. If we want to move away from this spot, the same conventional thought process and attitude is no longer going to work. A dramatic shift is now required in the way we perceive our region and conceive our identity.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;First: we need to be less defensive. There are many reasons for this, not least of which is the fact that it simply makes us look stupid. It is one thing to insist that you need more evidence in order to initiate action. It is quite another to question each piece of mounting evidence, especially in the face of a general popular acceptance of the fact that there are organisations here in Pakistan that openly purport the ideology that they are being accused of, about which we choose to do little.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Imagine this: a Pakistani organisation is so implicated in such activities that the United Nations actually sees fit to declare it a terrorist organisation, but we sit around and let it operate freely and openly until we get news of this declaration, at which point we spring into action.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What were we thinking until now? The banners hanging from most lamp-posts in Lahore for the last few weeks, asking people to contribute their “qurbani hides” to the organisation should demonstrate well the unfettered operations that this group enjoyed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Being defensive, however, may be a hard behavioural trait to alter because it is firmly embedded even in our everyday social interactions. Mohammad Hanif , the brilliant author of A Case of Exploding Mangoes made a fantastic reference in a BBC article to “that uncle that you get stranded with at a family gathering when everybody else has gone to sleep but there is still some whisky left in the bottle” in describing Musharraf’s behaviour when he announced his coup against himself last year.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Taking this analogy further, this quintessentially Pakistani uncle has two other very familiar traits. One, he is extremely defensive about every one of his own identities — nationality, religion, sect, class, career — and has a deep distrust of all those who inhabit the realm of the “other”. And two, he resolutely believes that the only verification any fact needs is for it to be emitting from his mouth. Musharraf suffered heavily from this delusion, but so do so many of our other uncles, those in our homes, those at our parties, and those currently issuing statements on TV.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Second, we need to stop acting in a merely reactionary manner. The “if they were in our place they would have behaved in the same way” attitude isn’t going to get us very far. Many of us tried to point that out to the Pakistani government all the way back in May 1998 when India first tested its nuclear bomb.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our government thought for about two weeks and then chose to act in exactly the same way, rather than to secure its position on the moral high horse by backing away from such childish tit-for-tat arguments and games.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our ‘outside-the-box’ collective thinking now needs to demonstrate that though it may be true that if some other country had been in our position they may have acted with misguided nationalist bravado, we are capable of acting differently, not because it is demanded or expected of us, but because this is the right thing to do and because we take such terrorist attacks very seriously, both at home and abroad. The moral high horse may be the only thing that Pakistan can have going for it right now, and yet, even that is being squandered away by the defensiveness of those who claim to speak on its behalf.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Third, Pakistan needs to accept a very harsh reality — it is not the equal of India, and the belief that we can be compared has stunted our development no end. It is apparently written by a professor of IIM-Bangalore. Below is the full article:&lt;br /&gt;=============================&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I did not anticipate the huge response my inbox received for the article slamming Pakistan. Many of those who wrote in have sought concrete steps to tackle the Terror Central.&lt;br /&gt;The terror attack on world citizens at Mumbai has created revulsion and outrage all over the world. It is imperative that India seize the opportunity provided to destabilise Pakistan.&lt;br /&gt;A stable Pakistan is not in the interest of world peace, leave alone India. Army controls the country and owns its economy.&lt;br /&gt;A significant portion of its GDP is due to army-controlled entities (See: Military Inc - Inside Pakistan's Military Economy, by Ayesha Siddiqa; OUP; 2007). One can easily say that Pakistan economy and its Army/ISI are synonymous.&lt;br /&gt;Unless this elementary fact is internalised, we are not going anywhere. This implies we should stop talking of a stable Pakistan since a stable Pakistan means multiple attacks on many more cities of India by that rogue organisation ISI, which is the core of the Pakistan Army and the heart of Pakistan's economy.&lt;br /&gt;Let us not even assume that Zardari is in control. Poor man -- he did not trust his own investigators to probe his wife's assassination -- he wanted Scotland Yard to do the job. Now he blabbers that if his investigators are satisfied, then he will initiate action against terrorists sitting inside Pakistan.&lt;br /&gt;Periodically, the Pakistan Army likes to present some useful idiots (as Lenin would have called them) as elected representatives and we swoon over such events.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;India should take the following steps to destabilise the economy of Pakistan:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Identify the major export items of Pakistan (like Basmati rice, carpets, etc) and provide zero export tax or even subsidise them for export from India. Hurt Pakistan on the export front.&lt;br /&gt;2. Identify the major countries providing arms to Pakistan and arm twist them. Tell Brazil and Germany (currently planning to supply massive defense items to Pakistan) that it will impact their ability to invest in India. Tell Germany that retail license to Metro will be off and other existing projects will be in jeopardy.&lt;br /&gt;3. Incidentally, after the arrival of Coke and Pepsi in China, the human rights violations of China are not talked about much by US government organs. Think it is a coincidence? Unless we use our markets to arm-twist arms exporters to Pakistan, we will not achieve our objectives.&lt;br /&gt;4. Tell American companies that for every 5% increase in FDI limit for them, their government needs to reduce equipping Pakistan by $5 billion. That is real politics, not whining. Let us remember that funds are in desperate search of emerging markets and not the other way about. Let us also remember that international economics is politics by another name.&lt;br /&gt;5. Create assets to print/distribute their currency widely inside their country. To some extent, Telgi types can be used to outsource this activity. Or just drop their notes in remote areas.&lt;br /&gt;6. Pressurise IMF to add additional conditionality to the loans given to them or at least do not vote for their loans.&lt;br /&gt;7. Create assets within Pakistan to destabilise Karachi stock market - it is already in a shambles.&lt;br /&gt;8. Cricket and Bollywood are the opium of the Indian middle classes. Both have been adequately manipulated/ controlled by the D-company since the eighties. Chase the D-company money in cricket/ Bollywood and punish by burning D-assets in India instead of trying to have them auctioned by the IT department when nobody comes to bid for it.&lt;br /&gt;9. Provide for capital punishment to those who fund terror and help in that. We have the division in the finance ministry to monitor money laundering, etc. It is important that terror financing is taken seriously and fully integrated into money laundering monitoring systems and this division is provided with much larger budget and human resources.. And it should coordinate with RAW.&lt;br /&gt;10. Encourage and allow scientists/ academicians/ elites of Pakistan to opt for Indian passport and widely publicise that fact since it will hurt their self-respect and dignity. There will be a long queue to get Indian passports -- many will jump to get our passport -- since they will not be stopped at international airports. It is rumoured that Adnan Sami wants one. Do not give passports to all -- make it a prized possession. Let it hurt the army- and ISI-controlled country. This one step will destroy their identity and self-confidence.&lt;br /&gt;11. Discourage companies from India from investing in Pakistan, particularly IT companies, till Pakistan stops exporting its own IT (international terrorism).&lt;br /&gt;12. In all these, it is important that we do not bring in the domestic religious issues. The target is the terror central, namely Pakistan, and if there are elements helping them here then they also should be punished -- irrespective of religious labels. If Pakistan is dismantled and the idea of Pakistan is gone, many of our domestic issues will also be sorted out.&lt;br /&gt;Will the Indian elite go for the jugular or just light more candles and scream at the formless/ nameless political class before TV cameras?&lt;br /&gt;It is going to be a long haul and may be in a decade or so, we can find a solution to our existential crisis of being attacked by barbarians from the West. We need to combine strategy and patience and completely throw to the dustbin the 'Gujral Doctrine' by that mumbling prime minister about treating younger brothers with equanimity. The doctrine essentially suggests that if we are slapped on both the cheeks we should feel bad that we do not have a third cheek to show.&lt;br /&gt;He, according to security experts, seems to have dismantled our human intelligent assets inside Pakistan, which has resulted in the gory death of thousands of Indian citizens in the last few years.&lt;br /&gt;Such is our strategic thinking in this complex world since our political class is not adequately briefed and the elite don't think through issues. The views are personal and do not reflect those of his organisation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;================================&lt;br /&gt;But today, every corporate captain is angry, and so are the celebrities who people Page 3 of newspapers, due largely because the attacks on the three top hotels were directly aimed at those who frequent these places, for business or pleasure (contrast this with the scant coverage of the carnage at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, for example, where commoners were involved).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All the same, the bleeding-heart liberals would be back to their routine ways after a few days. They will lament that the captured terrorist has not been given his favourite food and not allowed to watch TV or use his cell phone; they will say his human rights are violated. Just wait for the chorus.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Of course, this time it will be between Page 3 and the jholawalas (activists) and that should be an interesting match to watch, but that's another story.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the last ten years, not a single session of any seminar sponsored by the CII or Ficci or business/general journals has focussed on terrorism. When this writer once broached the importance of talking about it, a senior business captain said it is for the government to deal with.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many of those seminars gave importance to Musharraf and now Zardari, as if they are going to provide any solution when they are a part of the problem.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, at least, terrorism is being realised as a problem facing the country.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let us summarise what the real situation is and what the corporate sector should do if we are serious in fighting terrorism on our soil.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Recognise and treat Pakistan as a terrorist state. The state policy of Pakistan is terrorism and their single-point programme is to destroy India. This needs to be internalised by every business baron including the owners of media.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Now, the elite of Pakistan are more angry, since India is growing at 7% and they are given CCC rating and stiff conditions for borrowing from the IMF.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many an academic from that country, who I have met in global conferences, has openly lamented that nobody talks about Indo-Pak relations anymore, but only Indo-China or Indo-American, etc. They want to be equal but they are in deep abyss.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3.. Pakistan is the only territory in the world where an army has a whole country under its control. This is an important issue since studies have found that a large number of corporates in Pakistan are ultimately owned by the Fauji Foundation (FF), Army Welfare Trust (AWT) Bahria Foundation (BF), Shaheen Foundation (SF) all owned by different wings of armed forces (See paper presented by Dr Ayesha Siddiqa-Agha on 'Power, Perks, Prestige And Privileges: Military's Economic Activities In Pakistan' in The International Conference on Soldiers in Business -- Military as an Economic Actor; Jakarta, October 17-19, 2000).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hence, do not try to think of Pakistan without its army, irrespective of who rules that country temporarily and nominally. At least 70% of the market capitalisation of the Karachi stock exchange is owned by the army and related groups.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. There are three groups in India, who are obsessed with friendship with Pakistan. One is the oldies born in that part before partition and who are nostalgic about the Lahore havelis, halwas and mujras. The second is the Bollywood and other assorted groups, who look at it as a big market. The Dawood gang has financed enough of these useful idiots. The third is the candle light holding bleeding heart liberals (BHLs) who cannot imagine India doing well without its younger brother taken care of.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All three have been proved wrong hundreds of times, but they are also opinion makers. Shun them, avoid them and ridicule them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. We should categorically, unambiguously, unequivocally boycott Pakistan in all aspects for a decade or more. Be it art, music, economy, commerce, or other hand-holding activities. That army-controlled state has to realise that it has done enough damage to global civilisation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;More than 100 acts/attempts of terror recorded in the world since 9/11 have had their roots in Pakistan. More than 40% of the prisoners in Guantanamo are Pakistanis.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. We should recognise that it is our war and nobody in the world is going to wage it on our behalf. What the Americans are thinking, or what the Britishers are going to do, will not help. A determined country should have a sense of dignity and independence to fight its war.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We should stop interviewing leaders from that country who mouth the same inanities that "you have not produced any proof." The Government of India should perhaps create a museum of proof between India Gate and North Block.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am amazed that a country of a billion is required even to furnish proof. If one-sixth of humanity says that the terrorist state of Pakistan is the root cause of global terrorism -- it is factual. Let us not fall into the trap of providing proof to the culprits.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;7. We should realise that a united Pakistan is a grave threat to the existence of India. Hence, we should do everything possible to break up Pakistan into several units. This is required to be done not only for our interest, but for world peace.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;8. We have made a grave blunder by suggesting in the international fora that "Pakistan is also a victim of terror." That is a grave error and it will haunt us for decades. They are perpetrators and our government is in deep illusion if it tries to distinguish between organs of power in that country thinking it is like India.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is only one organ, namely its army (with ISI as a sub-organ) in that country, which owns and controls at least 70% of the GDP in that country.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If we want the world to treat Pakistan for what it is, then we should start practising it. Always call it the 'terrorist state of Pakistan' and never have any illusion that it is going to be any different.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If corporate India, including electronic/ print media, starts practising this, we should see results in a few years. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try  &lt;br /&gt;              delousing the closet in your own room.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll &lt;br /&gt;              give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that &lt;br /&gt;             on your own time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. it isn't our divine duty to help those who can't help themselves, Even god doesn't.Fortify ourselves and address our security issues immediately , while treating Pakistan as a hostile nation who has declared war on us.We could learn lessons on this from the US and others who have successfully precluded these since 9/11&lt;br /&gt;03.Make sure that we eradicate the underworld threat in India which will deprive such fractricidal forces from a fertile playground. Americans are asking:  Who attacked our country?  The evidence we have gathered all points to a collection of loosely affiliated terrorist organizations known as al Qaeda.  They are the same murderers indicted for bombing American embassies in &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;Tanzania&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; and &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Kenya&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;, and responsible for bombing the USS Cole. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;Al Qaeda is to terror what the mafia is to crime.  But its goal is not making money; its goal is remaking the world -- and imposing its radical beliefs on people everywhere. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;The terrorists practice a fringe form of Islamic extremism that has been rejected by Muslim scholars and the vast majority of Muslim clerics -- a fringe movement that perverts the peaceful teachings of Islam.  The terrorists' directive commands them to kill Christians and Jews, to kill all Americans, and make no distinction among military and civilians, including women and children. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;This group and its leader -- a person named Osama bin Laden -- are linked to many other organizations in different countries, including the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.  There are thousands of these terrorists in more than 60 countries.  They are recruited from their own nations and neighborhoods and brought to camps in places like &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Afghanistan&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;, where they are trained in the tactics of terror.  They are sent back to their homes or sent to hide in countries around the world to plot evil and destruction. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;The leadership of al Qaeda has great influence in &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Afghanistan&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; and supports the Taliban regime in controlling most of that country.  In &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Afghanistan&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;, we see al Qaeda's vision for the world. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;Afghanistan&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;'s people have been brutalized -- many are starving and many have fled.  Women are not allowed to attend school.  You can be jailed for owning a television.  Religion can be practiced only as their leaders dictate.  A man can be jailed in &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Afghanistan&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; if his beard is not long enough.   &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;The &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;United  States&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; respects the people of &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Afghanistan&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; -- after all, we are currently its largest source of humanitarian aid -- but we condemn the Taliban regime.  (Applause.)  It is not only repressing its own people, it is threatening people everywhere by sponsoring and sheltering and supplying terrorists.  By aiding and abetting murder, the Taliban regime is committing murder.   &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="background: rgb(255, 255, 153) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; font-family: Arial; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"&gt;And tonight, the &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;United States of America&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; makes the following demands on the Taliban:  Deliver to &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;United States&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; authorities all the leaders of al Qaeda who hide in your land. (Applause.)  Release all foreign nationals, including American citizens, you have unjustly imprisoned.  Protect foreign journalists, diplomats and aid workers in your country.  Close immediately and permanently every terrorist training camp in &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Afghanistan&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;, and hand over every terrorist, and every person in their support structure, to appropriate authorities.  (Applause.)  Give the &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;United States&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; full access to terrorist training camps, so we can make sure they are no longer operating&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;.   &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="background: rgb(255, 153, 102) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; font-family: Arial; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"&gt;These demands are not open to negotiation or discussion.  (Applause.)  The Taliban must act, and act immediately.  They will hand over the terrorists, or they will share in their fate.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;   &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;I also want to speak tonight directly to Muslims throughout the world.  We respect your faith.  It's practiced freely by many millions of Americans, and by millions more in countries that &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; counts as friends.  Its teachings are good and peaceful, and those who commit evil in the name of Allah blaspheme the name of Allah.  (Applause.)  The terrorists are traitors to their own faith, trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself.  The enemy of &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; is not our many Muslim friends; it is not our many Arab friends.  Our enemy is a radical network of terrorists, and every government that supports them.  (Applause.) &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="background: rgb(255, 153, 102) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; font-family: Arial; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"&gt;Our war on terror begins with al Qaeda, but it does not end there.  It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;.  (Applause.) &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;Americans are asking, why do they hate us?  They hate what we see right here in this chamber -- a democratically elected government.  Their leaders are self-appointed.  They hate our freedoms -- our freedom of religion, our freedom of speech, our freedom to vote and assemble and disagree with each other. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;They want to overthrow existing governments in many Muslim countries, such as &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;Egypt&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;, &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;Saudi Arabia&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;, and &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Jordan&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;.  They want to drive &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;Israel&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; out of the &lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Middle East&lt;/st1:place&gt;.  They want to drive Christians and Jews out of vast regions of Asia and &lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Africa&lt;/st1:place&gt;. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;These terrorists kill not merely to end lives, but to disrupt and end a way of life.  With every atrocity, they hope that &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; grows fearful, retreating from the world and forsaking our friends.  They stand against us, because we stand in their way. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;We are not deceived by their pretenses to piety.  We have seen their kind before.  They are the heirs of all the murderous ideologies of the 20th century.  By sacrificing human life to serve their radical visions -- by abandoning every value except the will to power -- they follow in the path of fascism, and Nazism, and totalitarianism.  And they will follow that path all the way, to where it ends:  in history's unmarked grave of discarded lies. (Applause.)   &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="background: rgb(255, 153, 102) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; font-family: Arial; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"&gt;Americans are asking:  How will we fight and win this war?   We will direct every resource at our command -- every means of diplomacy, every tool of intelligence, every instrument of law enforcement, every financial influence, and every necessary weapon of war -- to the disruption and to the defeat of the global terror network&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;This war will not be like the war against &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Iraq&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; a decade ago, with a decisive liberation of territory and a swift conclusion.  It will not look like the air war above Kosovo two years ago, where no ground troops were used and not a single American was lost in combat. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes.  Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen.  It may include dramatic strikes, visible on TV, and covert operations, secret even in success.  We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest.  And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism.  Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists.  (Applause.)  From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;United States&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; as a hostile regime. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="background: rgb(255, 153, 102) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; font-family: Arial; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"&gt;Our nation has been put on notice:  We are not immune from attack.  We will take defensive measures against terrorism to protect Americans.  Today, dozens of federal departments and agencies, as well as state and local governments, have responsibilities affecting homeland security.  These efforts must be coordinated at the highest level.  So tonight I announce the creation of a Cabinet-level position reporting directly to me -- the Office of Homeland Security&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;.   &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="background: rgb(255, 153, 102) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; font-family: Arial; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"&gt;And tonight I also announce a distinguished American to lead this effort, to strengthen American security: a military veteran, an effective governor, a true patriot, a trusted friend -- &lt;st1:state st="on"&gt;Pennsylvania&lt;/st1:state&gt;'s &lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:placename st="on"&gt;Tom&lt;/st1:placename&gt; &lt;st1:placename st="on"&gt;Ridge&lt;/st1:placename&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt;.  (Applause.)  He will lead, oversee and coordinate a comprehensive national strategy to safeguard our country against terrorism, and respond to any attacks that may come&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;.   &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="background: rgb(255, 153, 0) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; font-family: Arial; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"&gt;These measures are essential.  But the only way to defeat terrorism as a threat to our way of life is to stop it, eliminate it, and destroy it where it grows.  (Applause.) &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;Many will be involved in this effort, from FBI agents to intelligence operatives to the reservists we have called to active duty.  All deserve our thanks, and all have our prayers.  And tonight, a few miles from the damaged Pentagon, I have a message for our military:  Be ready.  I've called the Armed Forces to alert, and there is a reason.  The hour is coming when &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; will act, and you will make us proud.  (Applause.) &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;This is not, however, just &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;'s fight.  And what is at stake is not just &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;'s freedom.  This is the world's fight.  This is civilization's fight.  This is the fight of all who believe in progress and pluralism, tolerance and freedom. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;We ask every nation to join us.  We will ask, and we will need, the help of police forces, intelligence services, and banking systems around the world.  The &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;United States&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; is grateful that many nations and many international organizations have already responded -- with sympathy and with support.  Nations from Latin America, to Asia, to Africa, to &lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Europe&lt;/st1:place&gt;, to the Islamic world.  Perhaps the NATO Charter reflects best the attitude of the world:  An attack on one is an attack on all. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;The civilized world is rallying to &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;'s side.  They understand that if this terror goes unpunished, their own cities, their own citizens may be next.  Terror, unanswered, can not only bring down buildings, it can threaten the stability of legitimate governments.  And you know what -- we're not going to allow it.  (Applause.) &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;Americans are asking:  What is expected of us?  I ask you to live your lives, and hug your children.  I know many citizens have fears tonight, and I ask you to be calm and resolute, even in the face of a continuing threat. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;I ask you to uphold the values of &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;, and remember why so many have come here.  We are in a fight for our principles, and our first responsibility is to live by them.  No one should be singled out for unfair treatment or unkind words because of their ethnic background or religious faith.  (Applause.) &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;I ask you to continue to support the victims of this tragedy with your contributions. Terrorists attacked a symbol of American prosperity. These were the true strengths of our economy before September 11th, and they are our strengths today. Some speak of an age of terror.  I know there are struggles ahead, and dangers to face.  But this country will define our times, not be defined by them.  As long as the &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;United States of America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; is determined and strong, this will not be an age of terror; this will be an age of liberty, here and across the world.  (Applause.) &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;Great harm has been done to us.  We have suffered great loss.  And in our grief and anger we have found our mission and our moment.  Freedom and fear are at war.  The advance of human freedom -- the great achievement of our time, and the great hope of every time -- now depends on us.  Our nation -- this generation -- will lift a dark threat of violence from our people and our future.  We will rally the world to this cause by our efforts, by our courage.  We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail.  (Applause.) &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;It is my hope that in the months and years ahead, life will return almost to normal.  We'll go back to our lives and routines, and that is good.  Even grief recedes with time and grace.  But our resolve must not pass.  Each of us will remember what happened that day, and to whom it happened.  We'll remember the moment the news came -- where we were and what we were doing.  Some will remember an image of a fire, or a story of rescue.  Some will carry memories of a face and a voice gone forever. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial;"&gt;And I will carry this:  It is the police shield of a man named George Howard, who died at the &lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:placename st="on"&gt;World&lt;/st1:placename&gt; &lt;st1:placename st="on"&gt;Trade&lt;/st1:placename&gt;  &lt;st1:placetype st="on"&gt;Center&lt;/st1:placetype&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt; trying to save others.  It was given to me by his mom, Arlene, as a proud memorial to her son.  This is my reminder of lives that ended, and a task that does not end. The Task Force will also recommend ways for Americans to support local officials, including  in police departments, fire departments and community health centers, who are often the first to respond to a terrorist attack. This is called '49-O'.&lt;br /&gt;Why should you go and say 'I VOTE  NOBODY'? ... Because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that  particular ward has received&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;'49-O' votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled  and will&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;have to  be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidate of the&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;contestants will be removed and they  cannot contest the re-polling, since&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;people had already expressed their  decision on them.&lt;br /&gt;This would bring fear into parties and hence look  for genuine candidates&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;for their parties for election. This would change the way, of our  whole&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;political  system... it is seemingly surprising why the election commission&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;has not revealed such  a feature to the public.... Please spread this news&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;to as many as you know... All CISF  personnel guarding the security of Air Ports to be under the control of this  organisation. In fact these are not conflicts at all since I am an Indian, just as you are at the very core of your being. A proud one at that.&lt;br /&gt;Yet the muslim community in India today finds itself, between a rock and a hard place.&lt;br /&gt;This is because of the rabble and its rousers in each family,society,community or nation.&lt;br /&gt;Mouthing ideological platitudes as we have been, since the hypocrisy of Indian politics institutionalized itself thanks to the congress culture and its lack of inner democracy which pervades the consciousness or the DNA of the politics of our country.&lt;br /&gt;.This is a leadership failure at all levels, the family, society. community and national. And much as i dread to say this - it must be said that the leadership in the Muslim community - social, political,religious have all failed muslims miserably. And I am perhaps preaching to the choir here a bit, as your are obviously progressively minded people who visit or contribute to this site.&lt;br /&gt;I have also no reason to believe that most of the Indian muslim bretheren are any different from me since they grew up where I did and were also part of my cultural consciousness.&lt;br /&gt;The leadership at all fronts has failed. One significant domain of leadership that I have deliberately not discussed so far is the personal leadership domain.&lt;br /&gt;And this is the only domain where each one of us can be the change instead of demanding the change and guaranteeing failure by the nature of the exercise.&lt;br /&gt;The first step to change is recognizing the problem.&lt;br /&gt;The second is accepting it - i.e. getting out of denial mode.&lt;br /&gt;A large majority of us fail at the first step, a larger part of the remainder fail at the second step.&lt;br /&gt;The third step is contemplation - a few of us are able to do this dispassionately rising above our conditioning.&lt;br /&gt;The rest is easy once you have come this far, the popular myth of finding it hard to find the motivation just ceases to hold water when one has come this far.&lt;br /&gt;A wise man perhaps Einstein observed - The significant problems of today cannot be solved using the thinking that created it - i'd go further and say that trying to solve the significant problems of the day by the existing thinking (i say thinking, not wisdom) is the definition of lunacy.&lt;br /&gt;These are universal laws of life and could be defied only at ones own peril - one could be unhappy about gravitation and jump out of the nearest window in defiance - the results need no explanation.&lt;br /&gt;So how is this relevant to the current situation?&lt;br /&gt;Let us walk together and map it onto this current impasse and its deadly results.&lt;br /&gt;I believe that all muslims that are rational in their thinking will agree that the muslim community today finds itself generally stereotyped in the worst possible manner. This stereotyping stymies the progressive forces and the very key to the deadlock. While raving and ranting about it is an option but the fact is that some muslims have made large contributions to the formation of this stereotype globally. This venom within would need to be indentified and antidotes be made a part of personal lives of those of us who care.&lt;br /&gt;Let me also say that every individual,society and community generally  craves and strives for what we can loosely call success.&lt;br /&gt;It is a universal desire and so the laws of success are universal.&lt;br /&gt;Again let me risk being a bit preachy - but let the faint of heart and spirit stop at this point, as they may not be able to stomach what follows as it involves personal change, that we never want to bring about unless forced by self interest.&lt;br /&gt;I think we are at such a point in time now.&lt;br /&gt;The origins, goals and motivations of this outrage in Mumbai are quite evident now.&lt;br /&gt;If there is any doubt in any mind on this planet on the fruit of ignorance, hatred and spiritual bankruptcy are, they need their head examined.&lt;br /&gt;That said, the outcome of one's life is clearly a sum total of choices we make at every step in our lives. This however is not so obvious to those who covet visible success or its spoils without having the stomach or susbtance for what that takes.&lt;br /&gt;For every terrorist or wastrel who justifies his acts in pursuit of vengeance is just a weakling who wishes to take the easy way out, trying to bargain a price for what he covets.&lt;br /&gt;That is the essential difference between the Salaskars',Karakres', Kamptes', Gajendra Singhs', Karambir Kangs' and Sandeep Unnikrishans' and the countless others who shall remain nameless and faceless in our consciousness on one hand and the Azam Amir Kasavs' and his ilk of the world.&lt;br /&gt;In our need to look compassionate and socially responsible we seem to try to defy these natural laws of life. In our eagerness to be liked we seem to be over-eager to hand out fishes and loaves to those and create a mentality of covetousness and create a belief that it is indeed righteous to to be so.&lt;br /&gt;What could be further from the truth about the forces of life.&lt;br /&gt;It is a delinquency in our roles as leaders, as we lead our siblings,children, colleagues,societies or indeed nations, if we lead ourselves or others to believe otherwise.&lt;br /&gt;Sympathy is a substance liable to abuse like any other and in fact is the most rampantly absued&lt;br /&gt;of all opiates.&lt;br /&gt;So let us purge ourselves of the guilt that is distributed so liberally by all and sundry who pose as the wronged most often, when all they are doing is venting greed devoid of any intelligence -cognitive, emotional or spiritual- at all.&lt;br /&gt;Compassion, Humility and empathy are great virtues that all of must possess and pusrsue in greater measure, as we pursue greater success and make progress but let no one use this as an arm to twist behind our backs and hold entire nations and world to ransom.&lt;br /&gt;Let us not reward incompetent and stunted leaders with negotiated settlements to buy peace but lead them to paths that teach these essential and if that means not sparing the rod so be it.&lt;br /&gt;Let us not be delinquent in our responsibility towards the ones that we lead and those who choose to be in our care by letting our knees buckle and take easy ways out at any step or take cover under the fuselage of superficial debates that will now erupt and be fuelled by these men-of-words-and-little-else who lead us today in all domains.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is here the progressive islam proponents can choose to carry the can forward.&lt;br /&gt;The temptation to let the "others" change first is rather inviting and we succumb to it often,&lt;br /&gt;Let me repeat - The significant problems of today cannot be solved using the thinking that created type='html'>The origins, goals and motivations of this outrage in Mumbai are quite evident now.&lt;br /&gt;If there is any doubt in any mind on this planet on the fruit of ignorance, hatred and spiritual bankruptcy are, they need their head examined.&lt;br /&gt;That said, the outcome of one's life is clearly a sum total of choices we make at every step in our lives. This however is not so obvious to those who covet visible success or its spoils without having the stomach or susbtance for what that takes.&lt;br /&gt;For every terrorist or wastrel who justifies his acts in pursuit of vengeance is just a weakling who wishes to take the easy way out, trying to bargain a price for what he covets.&lt;br /&gt;That is the essential difference between the Salaskars',Karakres', Kamptes', Gajendra Singhs', Karambir Kangs' and Sandeep Unnikrishans' and the countless others who shall remain nameless and faceless in our consciousness on one hand and the &lt;span style=""&gt;Azam Amir Kasavs' and his ilk of the world.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In our need to look compassionate and socially responsible we seem to try to defy these natural laws of life. There are exceptions, of course, but generally speaking Muslim Indians have shorter life spans, worse health, lower literacy levels, and lower-paying jobs.&lt;br /&gt;Unquote&lt;br /&gt;The author or the sources that are alluded to, and the muslims that are referred to, have clearly either not visited parts of Bihar, Orissa and several other Indian states or chose to ignore the fact that a larger than 13.4% slice of Indian population of Non Muslims ive in the kind of grinding poverty with all ist corollaries that would make the existence of the muslims referred to, seem like the lap of luxury - yet they havent taken to guns or killed others or resorted to ethnic cleansing. For what is it if not etnic cleansing that is happening in the Jammu Valley of the Indian Kashmir?&lt;br /&gt;Thomas Edison that great American and indeed exemplary human , did not invent any WMD nor did he seem to need to kill people inspite of coming from a relatively under priviledged section of society.&lt;br /&gt;He chose to do other things like inventing the light bulb or electrical energy instead - he shook the earth too, a bit differently though.&lt;br /&gt;Why is it that qualities that we deem desirable in an individual are so diepensable when we talk of societies or communiaties or even mobs? Why are our expectations suddenly so much lower?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Why do we take it upon ourselves to pander to this entitlement mentality?&lt;br /&gt;Why do we analyse these issues on a communal or race based metric instead of the individual and his choices?&lt;br /&gt;Aren't all of the most inspiring success stories based on an individual beating circumstance?&lt;br /&gt;Who said life was fair or had to be fair? The human race would have achieved nought if life were indeed just and fair all the time.&lt;br /&gt;Socialism should have been our ideal instead if this was right and yet capitalism is what we preach ad nauseaum , ad infinitum.&lt;br /&gt;The mental pciture seems to be one of a child with folded arms and "please me" smugness.&lt;br /&gt;The modern day parents seem to suffer from this same syndrome - a result of excessive politically corrrect ideas that we adopt to look more correct than the next guy annd end up pandering our children silly.&lt;br /&gt;Except that it isnt anyone's brief to please anyone else.&lt;br /&gt;Can anyone really help someome who doesn't want to help himself -but just covets and covets more?&lt;br /&gt;Whatever is wrong with old fashioned striving or is that considered dysfunctional now?&lt;br /&gt;and then this priceless gem&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;which I quote&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Retribution was swift, and though Pandey was a Hindu, it was the subcontinent's Muslims, whose Mughal King nominally held power in Delhi, who bore the brunt of British rage. The remnants of the Mughal Empire were dismantled, and five hundred years of Muslim supremacy on the subcontinent was brought to a halt.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Muslim society in India collapsed. The British imposed English as the official language. The impact was cataclysmic. Muslims went from near 100% literacy to 20% within a half-century. The country's educated Muslim élite was effectively blocked from administrative jobs in the government. Between 1858 and 1878, only 57 out of 3,100 graduates of Calcutta University — then the center of South Asian education — were Muslim. While discrimination by both Hindus and the British played a role, it was as if the whole of Muslim society had retreated to lick its collective wounds.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Unquote&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So what did the muslim society expect? Should the british have handed over the reigns to them when they left - did the british lease India from the Moghuls or did the moghuls loose it to the British? Petulance!&lt;br /&gt;Could you in today's world keep your job if you refused to learn how to use a PC and the Internet when they made thier debut at work ?&lt;br /&gt;Breathtaking examples of "please me"&lt;br /&gt;Why do we allow people or communities to lay the guilt of their failure and deprivation at our doors when it is borne out of their intransigence that is dragging them down?&lt;br /&gt;Muslims just seems to be topical - but the same realities underly all minority-majority, deprived-priviledged conflicts in families, societies communities and indeed the world.&lt;br /&gt;Let us stop feeling obliged to apologising for other's sins of omission out of political correctness.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That perhaps is the single greatest favor we would be doing such participants of जाते तुम औरों के उत्सर्ग की फसल काटके अपने वंश का खलिहान भरते भरते ?&lt;br /&gt;कैसे हो तुम रहनुमा कि मां तुम्हारी लजा &lt;span&gt;गयी&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;जब वोह रंग गया उसकी छाती&lt;br /&gt;अतिथिओं  और बंधुओं के खून &lt;span&gt;से&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;कन्दाहर से मुंबई  की राह वो तै कर गए&lt;br /&gt;और तुम बस शब्दों के जाल उधेड़ते बुनते &lt;span&gt;रहे&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;शरणागत की रक्षा में प्राणों का सहर्ष तज जाते थे  तुम्हारे ही अपने&lt;br /&gt;पर बीज तुम्हारे स्वार्थ के अक्षय पात्र में रख छोडे हैं तुमने&lt;br /&gt;भूल गए तुम कि राम भी यहीं जन्मा था और राजधर्म की भेंट सर्वस्व कर गया&lt;br /&gt;तुम वहीँ हर ऋतू में नए मित्र ढूँढ लेते &lt;span&gt;हो&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;धर्म और भद्रता का यह कैसा पाखंड है &lt;span&gt;कि&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;अंतहीन है तुम्हारे मूल्यों की करवटें&lt;br /&gt;और तुम अपने सपूतों के बलिदान को रुपयों में तोल देते हो हर बार&lt;br /&gt;मुआयनों में जीवन का मुआवजा बाँट जाते हो&lt;br /&gt;यह कैसी है तुम्हारी आत्मा&lt;br /&gt;बोझ नहीं जिस पर भाई के रक्त की नदी में स्नान से  भी &lt;span&gt;होता&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;शर्म आती है मुझे की हमारी जननी एक है&lt;br /&gt;भूख तुम्हारी अबूझ है मुझे ,कि संतान की चिता पर भी सेक लेते हो तुम अपनी रोटियां&lt;br /&gt;कैसा है भोला मेरा भाई जो तुम्हे सौंप देता है अपना मुस्तकबिल हर बार&lt;br /&gt;कैसें हैं वोह सपूत जो रामायण पढ़े हैं&lt;br /&gt;और फ़र्ज़ जान कर तुम्हारी शिखंडियों को अपना अतिथि स्वीकार लेते &lt;span&gt;हैं&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;याचक नहीं समझ लेना जो उसने&lt;br /&gt;श्रद्धा के फूल रख दिए तुम्हारे दामन &lt;span&gt;में&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;यह बस एक मौका है&lt;br /&gt;जान अपनी तुम्हारे ईमान के हवाले कर के वो जो तुम्हे दे &lt;span&gt;गये&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;अब न माँगना अपने भाई से उसके सब्र का इम्तिहान&lt;br /&gt;या उसकी सादा दिली का सबूत&lt;br /&gt;अब कुछ है नहीं खो देने या पा जाने को उसके पास&lt;br /&gt;स्वाभिमान और सम्मान ही का  है मूल  उसका&lt;br /&gt;आजादियों और  सरहदों का छलावा अब नहीं निगलेंगे यह लोग&lt;br /&gt;और उतना नहीं है ओज तुझमे&lt;br /&gt;सत्व कि परीक्षा जो इस मासूम की ले सके&lt;br /&gt;आँख मिलाएगा, तो जल जाएगा तू&lt;br /&gt;मां के दूध का क़र्ज़ अब अदा कर&lt;br /&gt;बहुत हो गया चूहे बिल्ली का Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;Now  that we have won a watershed victory in &lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;Australia&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt; and unequivocally announced  our arrival as a Cricket Playing Nation and also a Cricket Paying Nation, it is  time to ask some important questions off ourselves.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;Australia&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt; in  Cricket, and the &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;US&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; in other areas of endeavor have  sufficiently demonstrated what rampaging, irresponsible victors can do to their  professions and themselves.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;No  question that &lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;India&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt; is on the ascendant in Cricket  and its administration and so shall we tread the same path or shall we strive  make things better?&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;Humility  in victory and in power could do a world of good to the sport and to each one of  us who either play or enjoy cricket.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;That  Cricket is funded by &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;India&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt; for the most part globally,  could either be wielded as a sword or an opportunity to  serve.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;Those  who live by the sword die by the sword, or shall I say  sledge.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;Leadership  of the cricket playing fraternity is now ours, and so let us exercise it with  great care and self discipline.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;We  therefore need to discern what we covet more, the sport or the power of running  or ruining it.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt; &lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;Let us  not therefore grind old axes lying in the shed of history but go beyond and look  at enhancing the game and restore sportsmanship to it. Leading by example is the  only way to lead in the true sense and servant leadership its highest  form.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt; &lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;That  said, we must also realize that we have as a tendency to be too thin skinned and  react emotionally to issues and often lose out on issues when encountered with  the least bit of frustration. We could begin by accepting that principles,  Strategy and tactics are three individual concepts and don’t always appear to  work coherently in the short run. Eventually principled approaches win. It is  important to be right, but seldom wise to be righteous when dealing with others.  Let us not be preachy and yet let us strive to reach principled goals by  carrying others with us whatever strategy and tactics may need us to do to  achieve these ends.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;Clearly  it would need acuity and pragmatism and not just crusading zeal to persevere  over the vested interests of the current power centers in the sport. So  strategy, tactics and timing would play an important role. And yes we can’t stop  sledging and start losing matches to uncivil teams in the short run, not until  we have created a climate where sledging is looked down upon. Much like what  happened with smoking, going from being perceived as Macho to just plain silly.  Not smoking is now a viable option. Just the same as we cant start sledging  teams that usually don’t sledge just because we have learnt a new art and need  to perfect it.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt; &lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;Where  do we begin? It might be a great start to involve more cricketers in the  administration. Let us realize that professionalism and sporting abilities are  not mutually exclusive and familiarity with the trade only enhances  professionalism. We today have a spectacle in our cricketing administration that  completely ignores walking-the-talk and it suffices to just talk-the-talk.  Should the current crop of administrators really love the game as much as they  beat their breasts about it they would not hesitate to co-opt cricketers with  wise heads into the management of the sport.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;Do  steer clear of the inane, weathercock, news channel experts that we are faced  with night after night. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt; &lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif;font-size:85%;color:navy;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 11pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Microsoft Sans Serif';"&gt;To sum  up, discretion is the better part of valor.
